ADVENTURES WITHOUT LIMITS (FOREST GROVE, OR)
Since 1995, Adventures Without Limits (AWL) has helped thousands of children and adults of all abilities experience the thrill of adventure. AWL helps individuals with disabilities and at-risk youth find adaptive solutions for a range of activities while breaking down barriers to outdoor recreation, including access to transportation, outdoor apparel, skills training and financial accessibility. AWL is committed to creating a safe community for all people, regardless of their ability levels, socio-economic status, gender, ethnicity or age to learn new skills, overcome obstacles and discover the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest.
BIONIC PROJECT INC. (CAMBRIDGE, MA)
The Bionic Project is on a mission to create a more inclusive world for everyone, regardless of physical ability. Through anti-bias educational programs in K–12 schools — which include assemblies, classroom sessions and outdoor adaptive sports experiences — the Bionic Project works to dismantle disability bias, build empathy and foster connection through education, storytelling and sport.
HIGH FIVES FOUNDATION (TRUCKEE, CA)
High Fives Foundation is a California-based, national nonprofit organization whose mission is to focus on preventing life-changing injuries and provide resources and support if they happen. Life-changing injuries include spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, or other mobility-limiting injuries that occurred in an athlete's lifetime. High Fives supports over 800 athletes and veterans (ages 9 to 65+), all of whom have sustained life-changing injuries. The foundation also educates the public on mountain safety, awareness, and accident prevention and provides financial support, healing resources, and adaptive sporting equipment to life-changing injury survivors. High Fives helps individuals rediscover their athleticism, their community, and their sense of independence by breaking down barriers to access in the great outdoors.
HIGHER GROUND (KETCHUM, ID)
For over 25 years, Higher Ground's mission has been to enhance quality of life through therapeutic recreation and education. Programs combine outdoor recreation activities with therapeutic processes to help all participants confront current struggles and develop skills to find success in daily life. The people with disabilities, as well as the veterans and first responders, who attend Higher Ground programs are more likely to improve their overall health and well-being.
PINE RIVER INSTITUTE (TORONTO, ON)
The Pine River Institute helps teens struggling with addictive behaviors and other mental health challenges to reclaim their lives, their families and their futures. Pine River’s primary program is unique in Canada, combining wilderness therapy and live-in treatment for youth, along with family-centered support. Pine River also provides prevention tools and education for families and professionals working with youth to develop the skills they need to address addictive behaviors and mental health challenges.
